Notes for students

Referencing | Sorry but... | And...

This site is very popular with students across a number of subjects, which is good! I am a perpetual student and am happy to know that others are finding the site useful.

Referencing

We get many requests regarding referencing pages for essays, papers, etc. Here's some key notes:

  • If you want to reference anything on the site, or link to it, there is no need to ask for permission, although it is always nice to hear from you.
  • All content is written by David Straker (M.Sc. (Psychol), M.Sc. (Mgt & Tech), PGCE, Dip.M, FRSA), except for guest articles, where the author is named.
  • Please reference 'changingminds.org' when you are using any material.
  • To find when a page was published, just do a 'find' for the page title on the Changes page. Edit/Find (or CTRL-F) works on most browsers.
    • If you can't find a page on the Changes page, then it was uploaded in the site start-up on 30th September 2002.
  • I am located in Abergavenny, Wales, United Kingdom.

Ways to reference the site

This style is typical, but do follow the guidelines for your school, college or university:

  • Name of author or editor, in the form: Second name, comma, initial of first name, followed by a period.
  • Publication year (in parentheses), followed by a period.
  • Title of the page, in italics, followed by a period.
  • 'Available from' followed by web page URL in angle brackets, followed by a period.
  • 'Accessed' and the date of access, all in parentheses, followed by a period.

For example, this page may be referenced as:

Straker, D. (2006). Notes for Students. Available from <http://creatingminds.org/and/students.htm>. (Accessed 25 June, 2014).

Sorry but...

I get various requests, some of which I can answer, but some where are I have to say 'sorry but..'. These include:

  • Sorry, but not all pages have references to all research materials. I tend to put references into more academic pages but there is so much research and experience in the practitioner pages that it's difficult to give any sensible references. It also takes time and at the higher levels I'm focused more on useful stuff.
  • Sorry, but I can't do your work for you. I don't write anything especially for individuals, including essays.
  • Sorry, but while I do try to reply to all emails, this does depend on workload and numbers of emails received.

And...

As with anything on the web, there are no guarantees about what is written here. I do my best, but misunderstandings and misinterpretation does happen. If you find any errors or other problems, please let me know. I try to keep it accurate and useful, but there's many a slip.

And there's more information about the site, if you'd really like to know.
